Ladies of Charity: Remember the Past, Embrace the Future
“Do not believe that things will always be as they are now” St. Louise de Marillac
Pittsburgh skyline from hotel room
A group of five Kansas City Ladies of Charity (Donna Montague, Rosemary Nelson, Sharon Brown, Barbara Ferrell and Ruth Wellman) arrived in Pittsburgh a day early and took an optional bus tour to Saint Vincent Basilica in Latrobe, Pennsylvania where they started the day off with Mass and continued on to the sight of the Flight 93 Memorial.
The “cookie room”
After registering they were directed to the “cookie room” where they saw an amazing display of homemade cookies! The hosts explained that baking cookies for special events is a Pittsburgh tradition. Anytime there is a wedding reception, a family reunion, a birthday celebration, etc., the ladies bake cookies. There were so many cookies to feast upon the entire time they were there. And there were still leftover cookies which they planned to take to the homeless shelter.
Fr. Richard Gielow was the keynote speaker, and his address asked “Where Does The Road Ahead Lead You ?” According to Ruth Wellman, “The Assembly was an informative and enjoyable experience!”
THANK YOU TO PITTSBURGH LADIES OF CHARITY — HOSTS OF THE 2018 NATIONAL ASSEMBLY!
